Waffellian Code
Waffellian Code of Law
The Waffellian Code was formally put in place by Chancellor Better on June 3, 2023. It applies to all Republic citizens and anyone else who enters any district of the Republic. Any contracts officiated by the Republic Notary are also law in the Waffle Republic. Violation of these contracts or any other Republic law will be handled by the Waffellian Court and brought to the International Court if necessary.
On the Waffellian Court
1. All punishments listed in this law code are the basic punishment for the listed crime, and they may be increased depending on the severity of the crime committed and/or whether the guilty party has a previous criminal record. If the offender is immensely rich, the default fines are to increase ninefold. If fines are evaded for longer than one week, or if any other punishment is evaded in any way, the punishment will increase. If a criminal is unable to pay a fine, alternative punishment may be agreed upon by the victim and the court. If they are unwilling to accept punishment, the court may petition the demigods to ban them from the server.
2. Increased punishments may include higher fines, death, confiscation of the belongings or land of the guilty party, or temporary or permanent banishment from the Republic.
3. Banishment from the Waffle Republic can mean being restricted from entering the country or being restricted from coming within a certain distance of Republic borders. In more extreme cases, the Waffle Republic may use the power of the Supreme Overlord or a deal with The Devil to banish criminals to Hell, or sanction the demigods to ban them from the server altogether.
4. Any person who accuses another and is found to have been lying will face the same punishment that the person they accused would have faced, as well as a fine of 5 diamond blocks.
5. Any person who accuses another and is found to have been lying after the accused is punished will face up to 10 times the punishment the falsely accused suffered, as well as a fine of 10 diamond blocks.
6. If a crime is committed but the victim decides not to press charges, the case will be dropped unless the court finds that extensive damage was caused.
7. All fines must be paid with resources mined in designated State mining areas so that the Republic does not lose resources.
8. All international laws are law in the Waffle Republic unless specifically contradicted in this Code.
Basic Rules
9. Anyone found to be trespassing on land that they are not allowed to be on will face a fine of 1 diamond plus 1 diamond per 5 seconds that they are still on the land after being asked to leave. This only applies if they have been specifically told to stay off the land or if there is a clear sign that they could not have missed that warns them not to enter the land. After 30 seconds, if the trespasser is not leaving, the owner of the area may take violent action against the trespasser without repercussion until the trespasser is off the claimed land. Any attack after the trespasser is off the claimed land or any retaliation by the trespasser will be tried as whatever violent crime is committed.
10. Anyone who takes resources or land that had been previously claimed by someone else must give the resources back if the person who originally claimed them can prove that they claimed it previously. If the person taking the previously claimed things knew that they had been claimed, they will be tried for theft.
11. Any Waffle Republic citizen who inflicts any damage on another country or citizens or property of that country without specific permission from the Waffle Republic government, even if that country is an enemy of the Waffle Republic, will be handed over to that country’s justice system or the International Court. The Waffle Republic does not condone unauthorized attacks on other countries. If the punishment decided by the other country seems too harsh, however, the Waffle Republic may choose to instead punish the guilty party according to the Waffellian Law Code.
12. Anyone found to be impersonating any part of the Waffle Republic government will be tried for any damages that could have been caused, and will also face a fine of 10 diamond blocks.
On Resource Preservation
13. Any diamonds mined within the Waffle Republic must be mined with an iron, diamond, or netherite pickaxe. That pickaxe must be either enchanted with Silk Touch or Fortune III. Offenders will face a fine of 5 diamonds plus 4 diamonds per diamond ore mined illegally.
14. Diamond ore owned by a Waffle Republic citizen or the government of the Republic must be placed down and mined with an iron, diamond, or netherite pickaxe enchanted with Fortune III if it must be converted to diamonds. It may not be smelted. Offenders will face a fine equal to if they had mined the ore with a stone pickaxe.
15. Any diamond ore, diamonds, diamond blocks, or any other material crafted from diamonds that either originate in the Waffle Republic or have become property of the Waffle Republic or its citizens must be kept safe and kept in the hands of the Waffle Republic. These diamonds cannot be given to non-Republic citizens for free and may only be exchanged to them as currency. Offenders will face a fine of 5 diamonds plus an amount of diamonds equalling double the amount that was lost.
16. Any diamonds that either originate in the Waffle Republic or have become property of the Waffle Republic or its citizens may not be wasted. Diamonds may not be used in any crafting recipes, except for those that are not renewable by trade with villagers. Even then, diamonds may only be used in moderation. Offenders will face a fine equal to if they had given away the diamonds.
17. Any ancient debris or netherite that originates within the Waffle Republic or has become property of the Waffle Republic or its citizens must not be wasted. Netherite cannot be given for free to non-Republic citizens and should not be used in crafting recipes unless necessary, and may not be used to select a beacon’s effect. Offenders will face a fine of one netherite ingot plus an amount of netherite double the amount that was lost.
18. Any other non-renewable and valuable resource that originated within the Waffle Republic or has become property of the Waffle Republic or its citizens must not be wasted. They may not be given to non-Republic citizens for free and may not be destroyed. This rule applies to items like elytra and enchanted golden apples. Offenders will face a fine of 20 diamonds and 1 netherite ingot and a fine equaling double the resources lost.
On Theft
19. No person may steal from the Waffle Republic or any of its citizens. Offenders must return double what was stolen, pay a reparation to the victim of 5 diamond blocks, and 2 diamond blocks to the state.
20. If someone possessing a stolen object is found to have bought it from the thief without realizing it was stolen, the thief shall be tried as normal. The original owner must get back what was stolen and the person who bought the stolen item must be reimbursed double by the thief.
21. Any container of items of unknown ownership must be left alone, and what to do with it is up to the Waffle Republic government. This applies to any form of item storage, including (but not limited to) chests, furnaces, item frames, and armor stands. Anyone who takes from a container they don’t own will be tried for theft.
22. No person may evade Republic taxes or commit tax fraud. This is a very serious crime. Offenders face any punishment the Republic sees fit, even if it violates the Bill of Rights.
23. Any items found on the ground within the Waffle Republic that were not dropped by a mob and are not clearly litter must be placed in a chest, if possible, so that they do not despawn. Anyone who keeps items from the ground or lets them despawn will be tried for theft or destruction of property by criminal neglect, respectfully.
24. If someone offers to pay another person to do something and then refuses to pay for the work once it is complete, they will be tried as a thief, and the worker may be given possession of whatever they worked for if the court thinks it reasonable.
25. If someone pays a worker to do something but the worker takes the payment and refuses to do the work, the worker will be tried as a thief.
On Violent Crime
26. Any person who is harmed or attacked by another person may inflict that same harm back on them, but not greater. Killing someone in self defense during an ongoing attack counts as fair retaliation, even if the person being attacked was not killed. If someone is killed in self defense, they MAY NOT use this exception to come back and continue attacking the defender. If this clause is used, both parties are equally guilty, so neither will be punished further.
27. No person may kill a Republic citizen or otherwise cause their death without permission. Offenders face a reparation payment of 5 diamond blocks to the person who was killed and 2 diamonds per xp level that the victim had, plus a fine of 2 diamond blocks.
28. If a Republic citizen is killed and their items are not returned to them, the person who caused their death will be tried for theft or destruction of property.
29. No person may attack a Republic citizen without permission. Offenders face an incremental reparation payment starting at one diamond where each blow or projectile fired or any other cause of damage adds one more diamond than the last to their payment, even if the attempted attack misses its mark. Any blow that is matched in self defense by the victim will be void as per Clause 26. If there is a reparation payment, it will be accompanied by a 2 diamond block fine if the damage dealt was 10 health or more.
30. No person may kill a villager owned by the Republic or one of its citizens without permission from the owner. Offenders must provide 1 full-grown, unemployed, non-nitwit villager to the victim and face a reparation payment of 10 diamond blocks plus 2 diamond blocks per time the villager had been cured, 2 diamond blocks per profession level, and a fine of 2 diamond blocks. The court may increase the reparation payment as they see fit if the villager had a rare trade.
31. Anyone who kills a mob owned by the Republic or one of its citizens without permission must replace the mob, unless the mob has sentimental value, in which case the killer will be tried for destruction of sentimental property. They may also face reparation payments if the court deems it necessary.
32. No person may allow a mob belonging to them to kill a Republic citizen without provocation. Offenders will pay half of what they would for murder and the mob will be put to death if it is found that the killing was not the victim’s fault. If the mob is of sentimental value, the offender will be tried for murder with normal fees and the mob will be spared.
On Destruction of Property
33. Anyone who destroys something built by a Waffle Republic citizen faces a reparation payment of 1 diamond block per 10 blocks affected (rounding up) and a fine of 3 diamond blocks. They must also provide the resources necessary to repair the structure, and, if the builder wishes, rebuild the structure for the owner.
34. Anyone who destroys an item, mob, or object of sentimental value or anything else irreplaceable that belongs to a Waffle Republic citizen must face any punishment that the Court thinks is necessary, starting at 20 diamond blocks.
35. Anyone who destroys something built by the government of the Waffle Republic must pay a fine of 5 diamond blocks plus 2 diamond blocks per 10 blocks affected, and provide the resources necessary to repair it. The vandalizer may be asked to rebuild the structure.
36. Anyone who destroys any landmark or object of sentimental value or any otherwise irreplaceable thing that is owned by the Waffle Republic government will be banished and all of their belongings will be confiscated by the government. If their belongings are not sufficient, the court may demand as many diamond blocks as they see fit.
37. Anyone found to be needlessly destroying nature (such as leaving scars or craters in the ground or mass deforestation) will be fined 1 diamond block and must rebuild the area they have destroyed.
38. Anyone found to have unleashed any particularly dangerous mobs (such as pillager raids, withers, or hordes of mobs) must work to help contain or destroy the mobs and will be held responsible for any damage the mobs have committed and tried accordingly.
On Substances
39. Anyone found using performance-enhancing potions to attack a Waffle Republic citizen or an animal belonging to a Republic citizen, unless in justified self defense, must pay 5 diamonds per potion effect active during the attack to each player victim, and 5 diamonds per potion effect active to the owner of each non-player victim. These fines will be charged in addition to the other assault or murder charges resulting from the same incident.
40. Anyone who uses a potion of poison, weakness, slowness, or harming against a Waffle Republic citizen or an animal belonging to a Republic citizen, unless in justified self defense, must pay an extra 4 diamonds on top of whatever the charge for that projectile is under the assault clause. They must also pay 5 diamonds to the owner of each non-player that was hit. These fines will be charged in addition to the other assault or murder charges resulting from the same incident.
41. The usage, possession, or sale of items that produce potion effects for recreational purposes is prohibited. Offenders face a fine of 1 diamond per item.
Miscellaneous
42. Once Waffle Republic citizenship is granted to an individual, it cannot be revoked, except by the Chancellor or Supreme Overlord.
43. All gifts from the government are automatically to be considered property of the receiver, regardless of whether or not they have yet accepted the gift.
